The cruise industry divides their ships into classes. How a ship gets put into the class is the size and look and features of those classes of the ship’s which is where the sister ship comes into term because they have made multiples of a ship in a class usually every new ship is a little bigger and has some extra features that their sister ship does not have. 

Carnival cruise lines has 8 different classes of ships. We will be discussing three of them. The biggest class of ship is carnival’s new class the Excel class, then we have the Vista class, Dream class, Splendor class, Conquest class, Spirit class, Sunshine class, and the smallest class of ship is the Fantasy class. Our First class we are going to discuss is the Vista class. The Vista class has a total of 5 different ships. I sailed on the Horizon the ship was only 6 months old when I sailed on her. You really could smell the fresh paint (sound familiar) the deck had that smell as well everything was great. The carnival horizon Inaugural cruise was on April 2, 2018, her godmother is Queen Latifah she can cruise at a speed of 18 knots. The ships gross tonnage is 133,500, length 1055 feet, beam 122 feed – beam at pool decks 158 feet, maximum draft 27 feet, occupancy based on guests per stateroom 3960 (1980 stateroom), full guest occupancy 5101, passengers’ decks 15 and space ratio is 34:1.   • This ship offers what is called the family harbor section of the ship also has a lounge.
  • Location is deck 2 – midship – Hours 6:00am- 9:00pm
  • Exclusive, secluded, dedicated family zone for guest occupying these staterooms
  • Programmed family movies and popcorn
  • Video game consoles, and games
  • Self-serve Continental breakfast buffet, afternoon snacks selections, evening cookies and milk and Swirls, soft serve ice and frozen yogurt

 Havana Lounge/ Havana pool area 

  • Location – Promenade Deck 5 – aft
  • The Havana lounge features three main areas – EL patio with 3 archways entries, La Sala, reminiscent of a living room and Havana bar
  • Serving Cuban coffee, Cuban sodas as well as classic Cuban cocktails
  • Latin trio or DJ several evenings per cruise as well as Latin-inspired Havana Night’s
  • Infinity pool (4’4” deep)
  • Hot tub spas (2)
  • Relaxation area complete with colorful umbrellas, faux palm trees, with patio huts and comfy seating
  • This area like the family harbor is reserved only for guest booked in the Havana staterooms and suites, and the grand suites as well as

 Carnival Multiplex

  • Lobby area with seating, kiosks to purchase movie tickets and a concession stand selling popcorn, candy and beverages

 Carnival Seaside Theater / Dive-In Movies 

  • Location: Lido Deck 10 - midship
  • Hours: show times are listed in the HUB App
  • 12' x 22' LED Outdoor Screen
  • A variety of programming, including feature films, sporting events and concerts are showcased on the screen daily as well as a ‘Morning Show’ hosted by the Cruise Director.
  • Dive-In Movies: During evening hours, settle in for a night at the cinema under the stars, from the comfort of your lounge chair or even the pool.
  • Beverage service, featuring drink specials and popcorn ($)

 Sport Square 

  • Location: Deck 12 - midship and aft / Deck 14 - midship and aft

  • Sky Ride: Recumbent two-lane, 800’ bicycle course that extends the whole aft section of the deck, approximately 150' above the water line
  • Sky Track: Padded jogging track
  • Sky Court: Lighted multi-purpose basketball court (can convert to volleyball and pickle ball)
  • Sky Course: Two 230’ rope courses, nearly 150’ above the sea
  • Sky Greens: Two-level, nine-hole miniature golf course
  • Sky Fitness: Featuring a wide array of exercise equipment
  • The Clubhouse and Open-Air Complex: Sky Billiards, Ping Pong, Poly Pong, Foosball, Twister, Shuffleboard (games vary per ship)

  Now let’s talk about the Dream Class. There are 3 ships in this class. We are going to talk about the Carnival Magic. Inaugural sailing on May 1, 2011, Godmother Lindsey Wilkerson, and Cruising speed 20 knots Size/Capacity

Our last class we are going to talk about is the Conquest class. There are 5 ships in this class. The Carnival Glory inaugural cruise was July 14, 2003, Godmother Dr. Sally Ride, Cost $500 million, and Cruising speed 21 knots. Size/Capacity

As you can see every ship is going to be different in size and features as well. It is so important when you decide you want to take a cruise to choose the right cruise lines for you and your family. That also means choosing the right ship. Do you want a smaller ship or do you want the world’s largest one? Do you want activities every night or a more relaxed atmosphere? Last you must take into account price all cruise lines will definitely not be the same.
